




PRESIDENT - ABENA ADOFO. Is an active individual committed to the work of the Church
and empowering young people to take an active role in the church on a local level
and on a national level. As well as being a youth leader in her church and assistant
secretary for the Ghanaian Fellowship. Abena is a MRDF Co-ordinator, she is also
on the London Districts Candidate Committee and was on the planning committee for
Emerging leaders Day in April 2009 for the President of Methodist conference. Abena
studied Media Arts and Drama at University and is currently training to become a
producer, studying MA Creative Producing. She has a varied background in the entertainment
industry through acting and theatre, film, television and radio production and uses
her creative gifts and skills to serve in the church. Abena's vision for the ABMY
is for the association to grow in numbers, strength and the word of God. To continue
the work of The Racial Justice Office, who sowed the seeds of hope, success, pride
and educational nourishment. To encourage, inspire, support and empower young people
to realise that there are many opportunities in many different fields and in the
church irrespective of their skin colour and finally to promote the positive work
of young black people in the Methodist Church and in society as a whole.
VICE PRESIDENT - STANLEY NJIE Is an Accounting and Finance graduate from the University
of Hertfordshire and is currently an Administrator in the NHS. His hobbies include
sports, music, computer gaming, DIY and cooking.
Stanley is also the Youth Leader, a Pastoral Visitor and Director of Music at the Leytonstone High Road Methodist Church. He desires to share in equipping young people particularly Black Youth develop their talents, achieve their goals, have a strong sense of identity and become disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
SECRETARY - JESSICA FLETCHER. Currently in her second year of medical school Jessica
is the youngest member of the present ABMY executive team. Acting as secretary, she
uses her organisational skill to help ensure the smooth running of the association's
events and its administration. Her passion for gospel music has led her to acquire
the role of president of the King's College London Gospel Music Society. Jessica
views the ABMY as the "ACS" (Africa Caribbean Society- a society in most universities
set about to explore different cultures) of the Methodist Church set not to cause
segregation but to celebrate diversity. Her cheerful and effervescent personality
allows her to interact with youths of all ages as well as those in authority which
she believes is essential to her role as secretary. She hopes to see the association
grow in numbers and be known nationwide.
ORGANISING SECRETARY - NANA ASARE. Is a young Christian who has taken an active
role in her local church and nationwide. As well as being a youth leader and Sunday
school teacher in her church, Nana has completed a Worship Leader course and is now
a Worship Leader for the London District. Nana studied a Business degree at University
and is currently working for a charity. She hopes to provide her contributions and
skills to serve in the church. Nana's future hopes for ABMY is to grow in size and
spiritually. Nana also see ABMY as a open door, offering opportunities for young
black Christians to receive confidence and be inspired to use their talents and achieve
their goals and ambitions.
SPORTS DIRECTOR - ALISTAIR IMBEAH Is an intellectual and sociable individual. Alistair began in the exec as a trainee exec member. He attends Bermondsey Central Hall Methodist Church where he is heavily involved in all aspects of the life of the church. From being a senior member of the youth group to being the youngest church steward. He is also the youth representative on the church council. Alistair has studied Sociology and Advertising at degree level and is planning to complete a degree in Sports Science and Coaching. His passion for sport and desire to bring young black Methodist youth together inspired him to organise the first ABMY sporting event, which led him to acquire the role of Sports Director Alistair's vision for the ABMY is to encourage young black Methodists to have confidence to openly love God and use the talents they have been blessed with to help others do the same. Alistair believes no body is too young or too old to work for or serve God.
