The founding organisation of youth clubs in Methodism- the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs; at the time did little to understand the diaspora confronting young black people, therefore it had little success in attracting them, which only made the void larger over the years.
Consequential to being humble in its beginnings in Christ like fashion, the ABMY came with a powerful message which woke up a number of dormant spirits within its members. The Racial Justice Office sowed the seeds of hope, success, pride and educational nourishment, which can be visually seen in those who take up the vocation of ABMY.
The trumpet of ABMY blew loud enough in 2001 where ABMY delegates were offered international posts in Germany, Hungary and were unanimously voted by the European Youth Council to represent the body at the Methodist European Conference in Portugal in 2002. ABMY also went to on a study to Ghana in 2002 with the World Church Office to uncover the unfair international trading laws which trample on the Ghanaian import and export economy.
Consequently ABMY was requested to appear live on BBC radio to reveal their findings and was requested to come back for a further interview based on ABMY. In 2005 ABMY went to Sierra Leone and the Gambia where it launched ABMY International and publicised this on live Gambian television.
From a corporate perspective ABMY has now attended two consecutive years at Methodist Conference and was referred to as a body to provide insight for the New London District Youth Consultation.
ABMY now soars as an eagle and beacon of light for future young black Methodists across by world and through God’s grace will continue to serve its community and share the message of Christ to all.

The Association of Black Methodist Youth (ABMY) was formed in 1998 by the Racial Justice Office as a reaction to the void in the provision of spiritual, social, cultural, educational and practical needs of young black people in the Church at a national level.
